eume, short for eumelanin was the third installment of an interactive exhibition trilogy forthe Overtown Music and Arts Festival.
eume celebrated brown and black skin tones, allowing festival-goers to draw themselves into their city's fabric.
The piece was constructed from two 6x6' hexagons and three 5' pentagons. An aerial view of the exhibition mimicked the composition of eumelanin, the specific melanin that creates brown and black skin tones.
X-PAC
X-PACs are waterproof backpacks that convert into raincoats and sleeping bags/ one person tents. The goal of these hybrid pieces is to address the ongoing need for temporary, lightweight, and portable shelters.
X-PACs bring awareness to 2022 Tennessee law that makes sleeping/camping on public property a Class-E felony. The unhoused community has been receiving fines and charges when caught using the visual markers of tents. These tents are often discarded or made unusable through destruction methods. X-PACs' goal is to help offset the visual markers by using a wearable-convertable system while continuing a discussion surrounding the impact this unjust law has had on Tennesseans.
The creation of X-PACs was funded in part by a 2025/2026 Metro Arts Thrive Grant.
