eume, short for eumelanin was the third installment of an interactive exhibition trilogy forthe Overtown Music and Arts Festival.
eume celebrated brown and black skin tones, allowing festival-goers to draw themselves into their city's fabric.
The piece was constructed from two 6x6' hexagons and three 5' pentagons. An aerial view of the exhibition mimicked the composition of eumelanin, the specific melanin that creates brown and black skin tones.
Perch
Perches are type-based benches installed in public spaces. With no armrests, these sculptures are accessible to people who need to fully extend or easily lift themselves from a wheelchair onto the piece. Similar to a bird perching on a branch, my hope is this is a space for rest, the sparking of joy, and the flight of creativity.
